In 1979, I was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, now part of Joint Base San Antonio. The shah was a patient at the base hospital, Wilford Hall Medical Center, where my daughter was born. Base security was highly elevated.
Today, WHMC has been replaced by a much larger facility and the old building is being torn down.
